Dr. Rahul Kumar Singh is a development economist working at the intersection of agriculture, social networks, and rural India. He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Tokyo, and was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Isaac Centre for Public Policy, Ashoka University. He holds a PhD in Economics from IIT Bombay.
His research combines long-running village panel data with randomized and quasi-experimental methods — spanning social networks and technology adoption, credit access, climate risk and crop insurance, migration, and agricultural value chains. His work has appeared in Agricultural Economics, Economic & Political Weekly, and the Indian Journal of Labour Economics, and has been covered by The Hindu, PTI, and The Week.
Using three waves of village census data from Kanzara, Maharashtra (1975-2014), this study examines how the relationship between farm size and productivity has evolved over four decades in semi-arid India. The findings challenge conventional assumptions and have been widely covered by The Hindu, PTI, and Research Matters.
